Mercantile Results Round 4

By Alec Khan

Caulfield Grammarians have taken outright top place in A Grade after reigning premiers Powerhouse could not match their formidable score on the small Fawkner Park No.2 ground. The Grammarians have jumped clear of Reds, who tumbled to the offspin of Vinay Tripathi chasing Carnegie's very modest 121. Emmanuel returned to form, bundling out newcomers Chilli Dogs for just 33, while Canterbury scored its first A Grade win, beating Sacred Heart despite fine individual efforts by medium pacer Andy Houtas and form batsman John Eaton.

In B Grade, Powerhouse and Coles Myer continue to set the pace, both having easy wins. C Grade saw several tight results, with Carnegie falling four runs short in a thriller against Monash and Glen Iris surviving a blitz by Emmanuel speedster Eden Watts to sneak home by two wickets. In D grade, Brighton East dropped catches and the points in a shock loss to Burnley. Gunbower continued its good early season form and will play for top spot next round against Reds, who may be feeling a little rusty after receiving their second successive walkover.
